Every summer, thousands gather in Burkesville for one reason: River Festivus. It's Cumberland County's biggest weekend and a growing tradition. This August 15–16, the energy returns to the banks of the Cumberland River, and this year's lineup promises a weekend packed with crowd favorites, competition, and one unforgettable headliner: Montgomery Gentry featuring Eddie Montgomery

River Festivus isn't just popular; it's personal. There's something for everyone, from the 5K and 10K races to the dry land boat challenge and catfish wranglin'. Whether you're coming to compete, cheer, or just soak up music and community spirit. This event has become a point of pride for locals and a can't-miss destination for visitors across the region.

Why People Keep Coming Back

River Festivus delivers more than just a good time. It puts Cumberland County on the map where music, culture, and community come together.

Live Music That Draws a Crowd

Friday kicks off with the annual Battle of the Bands, where rising talent fights for a shot to open for Montgomery Gentry featuring Eddie Montgomery on Saturday night. The main stage fills up early—locals know to bring a chair, claim their spot, and settle in for a full evening of music under the stars.

Full Weekend of Events

Saturday morning starts early with a 5K/10K through scenic hills. Then the river takes over with the 12- and 7-mile paddle races, the family-friendly Festivus Float, and a trout tournament. Off the water, the Cruise-In, Jeep Ride, and Crosscut Saw Competition offer plenty of action. The entire day leads to the big reveal—the Battle of the Bands winner—and then the headline concert.

Vendors, Food, and Fun

From fried catfish to handmade crafts, the festival's vendors showcase what local businesses do best. Families make a day of it, with kids casting lines at the Trout Fishing Tourney or the Kid's Casting Derby while adults unwind at the Beer Garden.
