Burkesville: The Fishing Capital of Kentucky

Fishermen of all skill levels gravitate to Burkesville, the Fishing Capital of Kentucky, which boasts the No. 1-ranked trout system in the eastern U.S. Five species of bass – Kentucky, largemouth, rock, smallmouth, and white – are found locally, along with trout, catfish, walleye, muskie, bream, sauger, and crappie.

Dale Hollow Lake is a boon for fishermen seeking large, healthy fish. In fact, the world record smallmouth bass, which weighed over 11 pounds, was caught in Dale Hollow Lake in 1955, and it stands to this day.

Under the surface of the Cumberland River, trophy brown trout swim, as do rainbow trout, walleye, sauger, and oversized striped bass. Numerous local fishing guides, such as Captain John Rush of Rainbow Guide Service and Captain Jim Durham of StriperFun Guide Service, are ready to lend their expertise, escorting you to the prime spots on the waters of Cumberland County.
