Community of Marrowbone

Marrowbone is a Cumberland County community of a little over 200 that sits about six miles northwest of Burkesville on Marrowbone Creek. The settlement was established in 1809 and the Marrowbone post office opened in 1829.

The Marrowbone Historic District is a 1.7-acre parcel that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It includes three registered buildings: the Marrowbone Presbyterian Church, the Modern Woodmen of America Hall, and the William Barton House which has a small smokehouse behind it.

Today, Marrowbone is a place of small-town charm filled with parades, picnics, and a sense of community.
